Review of Directory Site Submitter (Directory Submission Software)

Directory Site Submitter (Directory Submission Software)The basic features you want in a directory submission program are here in a simple, intuitive package. Couple that with an unbeatable price and a 15-day free trial, and what's not to like? Well, there is that one thing... the sad number of directories. We'll get to that when we run the details. [And this cautionary note: Tech Support may be dead. The last update to the program was in 2007. Not a good sign.]

Directory Site Submitter - Getting Started:

You're given the option of either downloading a free "trial" version of Directory Site Submitter, or purchasing the software upfront. You won't lose with either option. The "trial" version is good for 15 days, and is fully functional except for online directory updating. The trial gives you a chance to kick the tires and test drive the program without spending a dime.

On the other hand, purchase the full version and you'll have 30 days to decide if it's up to the task, or you can request a full refund--assuming you can reach someone in charge. Don't bank on the latter.

Tip:  Regardless of trial or purchase, watch the short instructional video on the company's home page. It pretty much explains everything you need to know to get started--from setting up your projects to submitting to individual directories.

Directory Site Submitter - Screen ShotDirectory Site Submitter - Here's What We Like:

  • The program is webmaster friendly, and the menus and controls are intuitive.
  • Directories are listed alphabetically and by Google PageRank; you can prioritize, filter and submit to the directories you want.
  • Ability to set up multiple, rotating title text and description text for each project. This helps ensure your link building looks natural, and helps avoid search engines discounting for 'duplicate content.'
  • Once info is submitted to a particular directory, that is noted and the date of submission is recorded automatically under the directory's name. Nice touch.
  • Clean and simple project reports are easily generated.

Directory Site Submitter - Here's What We Didn't Like:

  • Limited number of directories. Very limited. At last count (and this is subject to change, of course), the company was offering 500 directories, not all of which were "free" directories (meaning, some require recriprical links or payment for a listing). This contrasts sharply with other programs, such as SubmitEaze, which offers more than 4,400 directories. Sadly for this software, the following equation sums it up pretty well: more directories = more backlinks = improved search engine ranking.
  • Users with Microsoft's VISTA and above may be out of luck. We say that because the company lists, under technical requirements, "Windows 2000, 2003, XP with 10 meg of hard drive space." As of this reporting, no mention is made of VISTA. The last [software] release date was January 28, 2007.
  • Promises are made for future features. Like auto submission and listing confirmations. We're not impressed with promises. We like features that work -- now.
  • Update: as of November 2011, tech support for this product appears to be dead.

In summary, Directory Site Submitter seems an efficient, easy-to-use program that should get the job done better than some software programs. Problem is, the severely limited Directory Site Submitter Review - Excellent Valuenumber of directories is a splash of cold water in the face of those hoping for thousands of directory backlinks. That, and the other negatives outlined above lead us to issue an AVOID rating for this offering.

For those with a bit of money to spend, who are deep into SEO, who wish to pursue a serious number of directory backlinks, we have to recommend SubmitEaze in all good conscience. It's just the vastly superior product. And for Pete's sake, they UPDATE their software and their directories on a regular basis.

(Read our SubmitEaze Review and judge for yourself.)

Still, for those who are content to limit their SEO to 500 or fewer directories--and possibly outdated directories--go ahead and kick the tires on Directory Site Submitter. Keep in mind, though, that with the last update to the software dating back to 2007 and nobody in the control tower, tech support is non-existent. You're on your own.
